The beautiful Himalayan kingdom of Nepal is known for many things, but “manufacturing” is not one of them, a fact that was shocking Dr. Aashish Sharma since he was a little boy. “During my educational journey, I realized that everything we are known for was not made by us, but was given to us. This is an impending disaster waiting to strike.”
This realization drove young Aashish to action. On a journey into the unknown, he took a risk, experimented day after day, developed new guidelines in a conservative and traditional economy – and came up with the idea Singapore Beverages Nepal Pvt. GmbH. in 2017, which has since evolved into one Symbol of Nepalese quality production.
The largest soft drinks manufacturer Today, Singapore Beverages produces a long list of popular drinks such as Jeeru, Club Soda, Mountain Dew, Club Cola, London Dry, Fancy, Right, Nimbu Pani, Naturals and Fruit Gems. Their innovative products have created international demand and their drinks are now available in the UK, USA, Australia and other overseas territories.
“That’s just the beginning. We are also actively involved in mining, distribution, agriculture and other industries.
25 years ago, Nepal, like India, was importing vehicles. We are still doing the same thing while India has reached tremendous heights. A generation has to make sacrifices, a generation has to give up small advantages for the greater good. I want to be that generation. It’s not a one-man job, but when like-minded people come together, we can create a nation that provides sufficient livelihoods and a healthy economy. And so we are always working to bring about the change that the country needs.”
Hailing from the remote town of Bhadrapur, Aashish first moved to Kathmandu to complete his undergraduate studies at the South Asian Institute of Management and then to Dubai to pursue a Masters in International Business at the University of Wollongong.
After his return, he took the first step to start the company, but was confronted with the comment: “You are an idiot if you compete with the multinationals.” “What was true! I started working in my parents’ tea shop at the age of 16, but had no idea about the beverage industry. Any further effort made after that was a risk. Every new thing we did, every step we took, every dogma we rejected led to who we are today.”
Aashish’s passion helped Nepal on the world map. Singapore Beverages not only supports the Nepalese economy and promotes Nepal’s name in the international forum, but also creates jobs for locals. “I am passionate about developing new products, exploring possibilities and, more importantly, challenging established ways of thinking. The most important thing is change, which is inevitable. The faster we realize it, the better for us. That’s why I like to give it to people personally. I want to drive the wheel of change towards sustainable development.”
Aashish’s strong business acumen and commitment to excellence have resulted in him receiving various awards in his personal capacity, including the position of Managing Director of Singapore Beverages. Some of these include:
- Awarded a doctorate in International Business & Marketing from the European International University (EIU), Paris
- Young Entrepreneur Award
- Fame Times International Excellence Award
- Indian Achievers Forum Emerging Business Award
- Global brands and market leaders 2021
- Top 10 Unstoppable Leaders 2022 by Forbes India
- The United Kingdom recognized him in the World Book of Records and enabled him to set a world record.
Always the hardest worker in a room, Aashish has grown into an inspiring leader, mentor and teacher for the next generation. He leaves a message for all the youth out there: “Inspiration can be found everywhere. Most of the time, the smallest idea can lead to the greatest success. What is important is that you really believe in it and make uncompromising efforts. To find out more about Dr. To know Aashish, visit https://whoswho.world/ or email: [email protected]
