Nidhi Singh rightly demonstrates the quality of being a profound leader

Passion Vista is proud to share the success stories of some of India’s most prolific and celebrated leaders who have made their mark on the global front. Her charisma, diligence, multitude of virtues, strong personality, invincible goodwill and cascading influence set her apart from the rest. The highly-anticipated Most Admired Global Indians 2022 issue evokes this ethos of showcasing stories from those in the know who have left no stone unturned to ensure their work receives thunderous applause around the world. We present you their passion trips.

Nidhi Singh is one of the most promising names in the legal field and has won all the coveted accolades on her way to becoming an award winning barrister and law school. As an Independent Counsel for the Delhi High Court and the Indian High Court, her area of specialization is Financial and Regulatory Law, Public Law, Politics and Regulation and Economic Crimes.

Nidhi’s world journey began in the small Indian town of Dhanbad, Jharkhand, where she was born to an extremely supportive father who is a public contractor and an absolutely caring mother who is a disciplined homemaker.

She completed her law degree and became a Gold Medalist from the KIIT School of Law, Odisha. She then completed the MSc Law and Finance at the University of Oxford with two full scholarships as a Louis-Dreyfus Weidenfeld Scholar and a Chevening Scholar. She then studied Economics for Competition Law at King’s College London and Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School of Government, USA. She is currently enrolled as a JSM & SPILS Fellow at Stanford Law School, USA, specializing in law, science and technology.

In addition to serving as Counsel to the Supreme Court of India and the Delhi High Court in civil and criminal cases, Nidhi has previously worked as the Legislative Assistant to the Member of Parliament and trained the IAS, IPS and IFS officers of India at the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, served as an investigating officer at the Competition Commission of India and worked as an associate in competition law at Trilegal (Tier I Law Firm) Mumbai.

She is currently Frédéric Bastiat Fellow at the Mercatus Center, George Mason University, USA, and visiting law faculty at leading law schools in India – NLSIU, Bangalore; NALSAR, Hyderabad; and NUJS, Calcutta. She is also Associate Director of the Center for Artificial Intelligence, Law & Society and the Center for Competition Law & Policy.

Nidhi realized her dream of working as an independent solicitor when she became a partner at BlackPearl Chambers, Advocates & Solicitors. Previously, she had worked with all three wings of government – the judiciary, legislature and executive. However, Nidhi wanted to create her own brand of work where she would have the freedom and flexibility to work on core areas of her legal interest. For her, this meant working at the intersection of litigation, political advocacy and teaching.

She believes that it is extremely important to develop your practice over time. However, good, affordable and efficient legal advice should always be the order of the day. With this philosophy, her legal team is in the process of creating an online platform for non-professionals to “build/draft” their own agreements based on prompts provided to them by the system. In addition, the first consultation is free. This allows them a scouting mission to determine if the case is worth pursuing or not.

This determination and leadership in difficult times has resulted in Nidhi receiving global awards including some:

  • Forbes India Award 2022 for Best Individual Lawyers in India.
  • Lex Falcon Award 2022 for India’s Best Emerging Lawyers.
  • Indian Achievers Award & Women Achievers Award, 2022, for services to the legal profession.
  • Research Excellence Award for contributions to jurisprudence.
  • Presented work on various aspects of law at Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Oxford, Cambridge, the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, the World Bank and the ETH Zurich.
  • Appointed Frédéric Bastiat Fellow, Mercatus Center, George Mason University, USA.
  • Publication of around 70 research papers in magazines, newspapers and blogs of national and international renown.
  • Member, Global Shapers, World Economic Forum.

Nidhi sums up her passion in one line: “A life lived with purpose, not fueled by awards.” To learn more about Nidhi, visit www.passionvista.com or sign up via email, [email protected]
